The American Petroleum Institute strongly supports the Senate introduction of the North American Energy Infrastructure Act, a companion to H.R. 3301, which would improve the approval process for cross-border energy projects. API Group Director, Downstream and Industry Operations, Bob Greco said the dysfunctional permitting process for energy projects is hurting the USA鶹ýӳs economy and national security.
鶹ýӳGovernment roadblocks to building infrastructure could harm our current energy revolution,鶹ýӳ said Greco. 鶹ýӳWe need to fully embrace our thriving North American energy renaissance by building the infrastructure to transport needed energy to American consumers.鶹ýӳ
API thanked Senators John Hoeven (R- N.D.), Joe Donnelly (D- Ind.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Joe Manchin (D- W.Va.) for their leadership in trying to implement a transparent, modern and standardised permitting process for all energy projects that cross US borders.
鶹ýӳThis bill is another great example that energy is not a partisan issue. Responsible North American made energy is something everyone can support. We can be an energy super power, but we need to build a modern infrastructure system to reach that goal.
鶹ýӳWhile we need a consistent and robust regulatory process, it must be fair and be aligned with today鶹ýӳs energy realities. Unnecessary regulatory burdens on America鶹ýӳs energy development will stifle investment, harm our economy, and weaken our national security,鶹ýӳ said Greco.
API represents all segments of America鶹ýӳs oil and natural gas industry. Its more than 600 members produce, process and distribute most of the nation鶹ýӳs energy. The industry also supports 9.8 million US jobs and 8% of the US economy.
