API: KXL shovel ready for six years and counting
American Petroleum Institute President & Chief Executive Officer Jack Gerard once again urged President Obama to finally approve the Keystone XL pipeline, noting that six years ago today the initial application for the project was submitted to the State Department.
鶹ýӳHow many more anniversaries of KXL delays will American workers have to endure,鶹ýӳ said Gerard. 鶹ýӳPresident Obama continues to stand in the way of the tens of thousands of jobs this pipeline would create. Refining more Canadian oil at American refineries is a no brainer. Or it certainly should be, whether you look at the project鶹ýӳs benefits or the administration鶹ýӳs own studies. It will help displace oil from unstable parts of the world while enhancing our national and economic security. Americans overwhelmingly support building the Keystone XL pipeline.
鶹ýӳLeadership on sound energy policy is sorely needed in Washington. If after six years and five federal reviews, the White House refuses to take charge to secure our energy future, then Congress must act. Voters have embraced the North American energy boom and it鶹ýӳs about time their elected officials listen up.
鶹ýӳThe KXL political gridlock will be part of the president鶹ýӳs legacy on how not to conduct infrastructure assessments, on how not to bring about job creation, on how not to secure ties with your top ally and trading partner, and certainly on how not to set sound foreign policy signals toward a strong and vibrant energy and national security state. Americans need to know their government can make a decision that is in the country鶹ýӳs best interest.鶹ýӳ
API represents all segments of America鶹ýӳs oil and natural gas industry. Its more than 600 members produce, process, and distribute most of the nation鶹ýӳs energy. The industry also supports 9.8 million US jobs and 8% of the US economy.
