Tis the seasonÂé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­¦ to show them whoÂé¶¹´«Ã½Ó³»­™s boss. In the balance of power that exists between international energy exporters and their customers, Russia has considerable clout. Its actions over the New Year, whether politically-motivated or not, were a reminder that it is not afraid to wield its power, and also acted as a warning to those of its former Soviet state neighbours who would quibble over price contracts.
